Brightly: Raise Kids Who Want to Read is a blog about books that encompasses the age groups of Baby & Toddles, Pre-K, Growing Readers, Tween, and Teen. There are blogs written about books covering a variety of popular and hot topics in today’s world. The post are very relevant the today. There are several guest authors and bloggers. I have yet to find a topic that does not have blog post. It also covers ideas about reading that are book lists for reading with children.
I use this blog as a starting point to gather books for a lesson or a particular topic to add books to the current collection in the school library where I work as the librarian. First, I enter some keywords into the search bar. Then, I click on a blog that might provide me with some ideas for books that begin my search to build a topic for the students at the school. I make my own list. I check the school collection first. Then, I request the books from the local library. I research the books on the internet, especially the authors if I am looking for books outside of my own culture. I want the collection to reflect all the children in the school as honestly as possible. It is a constant process and the endpoint is always moving making it a journey. I want the students to have access to a collection that reflects back to them in a positive way.
